no joy

there is no joy any longer
                everything,
 all just rote
all inconsequential
                motions to keep everything afloat
being sad is only evidence
                that there once was happiness

I love Rome but....

I love Rome but, this probably sounds better than it actually was:

Benoît-Joseph Labre (1748-83) having failed in his first ambition, to become a monk, he became for five years a perpetual pilgrim, before abandoning himself to the life of a derelict in Rome.

Destiny

Uh, regarding the notion of 'Destiny'; I am pretty sure that if I wasn't doing what I'm doing, I'd be doing something else.

Time is funny

Time is funny...

It seems to drag.

But before you know it and you’re sixty something and all that was evident of your childhood,  you watched Mother throw out in the garbage.

"...to have rich eyes and poor hands."

"A traveller! By my faith, you have great reason to be sad. I fear you have sold your own lands to see other men’s. Then to have seen much and to have nothing is to have rich eyes and poor hands."

~ William Shakespeare, As You Like It [ Act 4, Scene 1]

Quotations from the Internet

"Every man is guilty of all the good he did not do."   ~Voltaire

Always liked this 'quote' but admittedly have never read the source text. You know, this is just one of those internet quotations one comes across.

I have since discovered that the complete quote is:

“A minister of state is excusable for the harm he does when the helm of government has forced his hand in a storm; but in the calm he is guilty of all the good he does not do.”

- The Age of Louis XIV  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Age_of_Louis_XIV

I prefer the utility of shorted quote.   Not doing good isn't just a matter for government roles.

can't find my way home

I drink too much.

I sleep too little.

Focused on duty.
